1.      Membership

 

1.1      Full Members  Prospective full members in the ALR must meet the following requirements without exception:

 

1.1.1 Must be a current member in good standing in the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of the American Legion.

1.1.2 Must not at any time hold membership in more than one Post-level Chapter of the ALR.  This provision does not preclude a member from holding office in any Governing or Guiding Chapter organized from amongst groupings of Post-level Chapters, including County, District, Department, Regional, or National Chapters, as seen fit by any commensurate organizational level within the American Legion.

1.1.3 Must be the legally registered owner of a motorcycle of at least 350cc engine displacement and must possess a valid driver’s license in their state of residence.

1.1.4 Must be the legal spouse of an ALR member is good standing within the Chapter of application.

1.1.5 Full membership will require a vote by the members and a 90 day “Probation Period” to allow the members to get to know the applicant before a vote on prospective membership takes place.

 

2.1 Support Members Chapters at their own discretion may allow Chapter Supporters.

 

2.1.1Chapter Supporter classification does not constitute full membership

in the ALR but is intended as a means to provide recognition to those who show strong support to the ALR Chapter.

2.1.2Chapter Supporters must be voted in at the Chapter Membership Monthly Meeting.

2.1.3Chapter Supporters must provide the Membership with a 90 day “Probation Period” to show their interest in the ALR Chapter.

            2.1.4All articles of clothing worn by Chapter Supporters displaying the

             ALR emblem must also contain the words “Supporter”.

 

   3.1 Membership Revocation

                   

3.1.1Any Full Member or Support Members membership in the ALR may be revoked for conduct unbecoming an ALR Member.  We are a Veterans Organization and we will maintain a good standing with the Legion, American Legion Riders, and the Community.

3.1.2Any Full Member or Support Member who does not maintain a good standing with the Legion, ALR, or the community whose membership is in question, a vote by the Full Members at the Monthly Membership Meeting will be taken to revoke a membership.

3.1.3If the Membership votes to revoke a membership, all ALR Emblems, including the ALR Patch must be surrendered to the remaining membership.

 

   4.1 Officers of the Chapter

    

4.1.1 Required Offices                                                                          

                      

4.1.1.1 Director Serves as Chief Administrative Officer of the    Chapter and presides over all meetings.  Supervises all affairs of the Chapter.  Performs such other duties as directed by the general membership.

4.1.1.2 Assistant Director  Assumes the duties of the Director in his/her absence.  Assists the Director in the performance of his/her duties when called on to do so by the Director.

4.1.1.3 Secretary/Treasurer  Keeps a full and accurate record of all proceedings at the meetings.  Keeps membership records as may be required by the general membership.  Provides detailed minutes of prior meetings at each regular meeting.  Responsible for all finances of the Chapter.  Disburses and collects funds as directed by the general membership.  Provides detailed financial reports at each regular meeting.  Provides financial audit data to the sponsoring Post if requested.

4.1.1.2      Sgt at Arms/Run Coordinator 

 Responsible for all logistics of organized runs of the Chapter, Including determination of dates, times, routes, and meeting Places for those taking part in a run activity.  Appoints, directs, and dismisses assistant road captains and/or security personnel as may be required by activities and/or circumstances of the Chapter. Responsible to plan for the safety of other participants in any Chapter-sponsored run or activity.  Maintains order during chapter meetings.  Ensures eligibility of those participating in Chapter elections, and ensures ineligible persons are not allowed to participate in the vote.

 

 5.1   Elections

 

5.1.1 Election of officers will take place annually.  Nominations will be made in the month of December. Offices will be filled in January. 

5.1.2 Only those members of the Chapter in good

standing shall be allowed to make a nomination and vote.

5.1.3 Only those members who carry a “Full” membership shall be       allowed to make a nomination, vote, and hold an office. Supporters” have no vote.

5.1.4   Determination of eligibility to vote or hold office shall be made by the Sgt At Arms using membership records or whatever means of identification of the member as deemed necessary by the general membership.

5.1.5 The method of nomination and voting shall be done by a show of hand or ballot and will be determined by the membership during the nomination and voting process.

                                            

   6.1   Meetings

 

6.1.1 Meetings will take place on the 2nd Sunday of each month at 2PM Central Time at the American Legion Post 18. 

6.1.2 Monthly Member Meetings will be called to order and the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America Flag shall be recited before the start of the Meeting. 

 

7.1         Dues

 

7.1.1 It is the consensus of the ALR Post 18 to collect monthly dues at each meeting.  The Full Membership will provide the ALR with $10 dues each month.  The “Supporters” will provide the ALR with $5 in dues each month.

 

 

 

 

8.1         Uniform

 

    8.1.1 The American Flag

 The American Flag is to be displayed on the left side of the vest so the field    of stars is forward as if the Flag is carried into the wind on a pole. 

8.1.2      When the flag is displayed on the motorcycle is should be on the right side.  The right side as to the rider’s perspective when he/she is sitting on the motorcycle.

8.1.3      Nothing will be on the vest above the American Flag. 

8.1.4      The colors of the flag will be the traditional red, white and blue.  No other color of American Flag will be allowed.

 

 

9.1         The ALR Back Patch

 

9.1.1 The American Legion Riders Back Patch will be displayed on the back of vest.  There will not be any other patch displayed with the ALR Back Patch.

9.1.2  The vest will be black.  It can either be leather or denim.

9.1.3  The “Supporter” back patch will have the word “Supporter” on the bottom line of the patch.

9.1.4  All patches will be paid for by the member and ordered through the ALR web site by the Director so the lettering will appear correct.

9.1.5  Never will the ALR Post 18 vest appear to be associated with an M/C (motorcycle club)

9.1.6 The price for the patch is determined by the web site price plus shipping.  The price for the patch is to be a processing and induction fee and the member agrees that the patch remains the property of Post 18 ALR and will be returned to the ALR upon resignation or expulsion of the member as to be determined by the voting members of ALR Post 18.  Any member becoming deceased, his/her family will determine what will happen with the patch.
