Backyard The area in which you ride often. Most cases close to home.

 

Baffle A metal tube that slids inside exhaust that quitens the exhaust

 

Bitch Seat Refering to rear or passenger seat of a motorcycle.

 

Blockhead Harley V-Twin Engine

 

Broad Female entertainer that is often a dancer or prostitue hired to entertain the club.

 

Cage Biker slang for an enclosed vehicle such as a car, pickup, van or RV

 

Close Up Reduce the gap between you and the motorcycle in front of you therefore eliminating the danger of cars moving into the procession.

Crossing Wheels When riding in staggered formation, crossing wheels means that the front wheel of your motorcycle is even with or ahead of the rear wheel on the motorcycle just in front of you and in the other side of the lane.

Drag Man The person who is always last in a pack and secures the lane for lane changes and observes the group from the rear of the pack. The Drag Man is under direct authority of the Road Captain.

Flash Patch Generic patches that are normally sold at swap meets, rallies, bikefest and shops.

 

Flying Low Speeding or riding at high rate of speed

 

Formation The order of placement of motorcycles in a group ride is a formation of motorcycles. The Road Captain will specify what formation the ride will be ridden.

 

Forward Controls To include front pegs, shifter and rear brake control that have been modified or moved further forward to stretch your legs out.

 

Freedom Fighter Motorcycle Rights Organization member dedicated to preserving or obtaining your rights and freedom as a biker.

 

FTW Acronym meaning Forever Two Wheels or to some it means Fuck The World

 

Gap The space between you and the motorcycle in front is what is know as a gap. The Road Captain may give the signal to close up the gap or spread out the gap.

 

Group Ride An organized ride consisting of 3 or more motorcycles under the charge of a Road Captain and tailed by a Drag Man.

 

Hand Signals Signals given by the Road Captain to indicate to the group what he wants them to do. The Road Captain's signals are relayed by each member in the ride letting the riders behind them know what the Road Captain is saying to the group.

HOG Acronym meaning Harley Owner's Group, organization comprised of people who own Harley Motorcycles

 

Independent A member of the biker community but not a member of any club or group.

Mid-Line Relay A Mid-Line Relay is a rider that is strategically placed in the pack where there are a large number of riders. When the Road Captain signals a lane change the drag man is to secure the lane for the group. Mid-line relays will pull into the lane so that the drag man will know that the Road Captain is intending to change lanes and wants the lane secured. Mid-Line Relays are used in very large groups of 40 or more riders.

 

MM Acronym meaning Motorcycle Ministry

 

Moonlight Mile A ride away from camp or compound with a lady friend.

 

MRO Acronym meaning Motocycle Rights Organization such as Abate, Bolt or any other group that works to protect the rights and freedom of motorcyclists.

 

MSF Acronym meaning Motorcycle Safety Foundation

 

OEM Acronym meaning Original Equipment Manufacturer

 

Ole Lady Man biker referring to his wife, girl friend or significant other.

 

Pack Just as wolves travel in groups called a pack, a large group of motorcycle riders moving down the highway is known as a Motorcycle Pack

Passenger Any person on the back of a motorcycle should be referred to as a passenger rather than by some of the slang titles that have been used in the past by different groups.

Post Ride Meeting A meeting held by the Road Captain to inform members of the group of any problems he may have observed during the ride. This meeting also serves to let members know of activities after the official ride.

 

Pre Ride Meeting The Road Captain will hold a pre ride meeting to explain the where the group is riding, what the route will be, known hazards along the route, and where the rest stops will be. Usually the Chaplain will say a prayer, for those who wish to participate, asking that the ride be safe.

 

Pucker Factor Indicates how tight your ass got on a close call while riding your bike with accident of some kind or hairy situation.

 

Rags Commonly used when referring to your cut or colors but in some areas it is used to referencing to a woman's colors

 

Rat Bike Used to describe an older bike that appears it has not been takin care or and possible abused.

 

RC Acronym meaning Riding Club

 

Relay The act of every member in the pack duplicating the signs made by the Road Captain. In a large pack it is impossible for everyone to see what the Road Captain's signs are, so it is the responsibility of all riders to relay the signs back to the other riders.

Rice Burner Commonly used when refering to Asian made motorcycles.

 

RICO Acronym meaning "Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations". Mafia was prime target for Laws passed to combat organized crime but is sometimes used against MC Clubs.

 

Rider The driver or person in control of the motorcycle. The rider is not the person on the back of the motorcycle, even though he or she is in fact riding.

 

Ridin' Bitch Riding as passenger of a bike.

 

Road Captain The Road Captain is completely in charge of everything and everyone riding in the group ride. Even the President of the chapter follows direction from the Road Captain. Always follow the Road Captain even if you realize he is going the wrong way. You can get the Road Captain's attention by honking your horn and then let him know he has made a wrong turn. By observing this rule everyone stays together and it is easier to get back on the right track.

 

Road Guard The Road Guard also known as an Out Rider, is responsible for holding traffic at intersections in situations where the Road Captain has received prior approval by the local Law Enforcement Agency.

 

Road Team The Road Team is made up of all members appointed by the Road Captain to assist him in conducting the ride. This team includes but is not limited to road guards, drag men, mid relay riders, and Sgt at Arms.

 

Rocker Part of MC colors that indicates geographic area, location or territory in which they represent or are from.

 

RUB Acronym meaning Rich Urban Biker, normally a biker that rides ocassionally and is not a member of a club or organization

 

Rubber Tire

 

Rubber Side Down Used often as a good bye to indicate to ride safe and don't lay bike down or have accident.

 

Run Road trip to destination know and sometimes unknown with possible planed or unplanned time frame with you friends, brothers or just fellow motorcyclist.

 

Running 66 Sometimes known as "riding incognito" this means riding without club patch or cut.

 

Scoot Biker Slang for Motorcycle.

 

Sergeant At Arms The Sergeant At Arms carries out the orders of the Road Captain and provides security for the ride. In a situation where a rider is asked not to ride with the group for unsafe practices or being intoxicated, it is the responsibility of the Sgt. At Arms to enforce the Road Captain's decision to expel the rider from the pack.

 

Shiny Side Up Used often as a good bye to indicate to ride safe and don't lay bike down or have accident.

Shower Head Due to the water cooled motor on the new Harley-Davidson V-Rod looking like a shower head.

 

Single File The Road Captain will hold up hand extending his index finger straight up to indicate a bad road, construction area, or a hazard ahead. This sign is his indication he wants all riders to move to a single file formation one behind the other and directly behind the Road Captain.

Softtail A motorcycle that resembles a hardtail but has a hidden suspension system

 

SMRO Acronym meaning State Motorcycle Rights. Not all states have this organization but it is like an MRO except defined by the state in which they operate. Most often associated with National MROs such as AMA and MRF. However working on a state level, with state government to protect motorcyclists rights and freedoms. Membership is often open to clubs or riders with members paying annual dues. Even though they do cannot wear the patch on front of vest a club could still be a member of a SMRO.

 

Staggered The usual riding formation used in most cases by American Cruisers Alliance. This formation provides for safe following distance and allows the rider to swerve if needed to avoid obstacles.

Tail Gunner Rider which rides in the rear of group. Sometime may hold that title or can be assigned as needed for a ride.

 

The Motorcycle Wall Memorial for fallen motorcycle riders located in Hopedale Ohio. Fallen riders names are engraved on the wall as well as brick memorials on walkways. Unless an event is taking place the Memorial is open for visits from general public.

 

Thirteen or 13 Having several meaning and often worn by "Outlaw" bikers.  Marjijuana, meth, motorcycle and M for the orignal Mother chapter are just a few meanings.

 

Turn your back Sometimes consider disassociating yourself of a person or club.

 

Twisties Road with a lot of turns and curves.

 

Two by Two Two by Two, Wheel to Wheel, Parade Formation are terms used when the riders are riding side by side in the same lane. This formation should never be used in a group ride except when in a parade or at the Road Captain's order and then never at a speed greater than 25 MPH.
